Westermo - Modems

TDW33 GDW11 MRD310 MRD330 MRD350

GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) offers a natural and easy platform for wireless automation, much more flexible and easier solution than for example traditional radio modems. The GSM-modem can be used to link PLC’s, data loggers, security and surveillance systems or for data acquisition. With the ability to call pre-set numbers or send/receive SMS-messages the GSM-modem is ideal for alarm monitoring and remote diagnostics for unmanned stations. The Westermo GSM-modem can communicate with other GSM-modems, traditional analogue modem and ISDN-adapters.

This product group consists of modems that can be connected to the public telephone network. The modems are approved in most European countries and in many countries in other parts of the world.

Westermo modems are designed for industrial applications, which means that there are functions built in to them that are especially useful in industrial systems like for instance PLC connection mode and DIP switch settings. The Westermo products have a watchdog function and are galvanically isolated to give reliable communication in harsh environments.

TDW33 Telephone Modem

Features Include:
  • Extended temperature range –25°C to +70°C
  • Data rate up to 56 kbit/s (V90)
  • Terminal rate up to 115.2 kbit/s
  • DTR and incoming data dialling

  • Secure call back and access
  • Industrial environment transient protection on all interfaces
  • Up to 11 data bits
  • Tri-Galvanic isolation (interface/line/supply)
  • Caller ID presentation and answering
  • Remote configuration
The TDW-33 is designed to function reliably within industrial environments and in areas of high level interference. The modem has an RS-232 interface supporting terminal data rates up to 115-kbit/s. The TDW-33 is a V.90 modem meaning that it can support data rates of up to 56 kbit/s on the PSTN line side. The modem is equipped with transient protection on the line side and a “watchdog” that monitors and automatically resets the modem in the event of a fault. These functions together with remote configuration make the modem perfect for installation at unmanned sites and prevent the need of costly service trips. The modem also has password protection, dial-back security and caller ID answering to ensure that only authorised users can communicate with the modem and any connected equipment. The TDW-33 is ideal for industrial applications as it mounts easily on to a 35 mm DIN-rail, runs from 12–48-VDC power supplies, has screw terminal connections and is tri galvanically isolated. For ease of setup the modem is supported by the Westermo TD-tool configuration software. Drivers for Windows setup are also supplied.

  • Extended temperature range –13°F to –122°F (–25°C to +50°C)
  • GPRS, class B, class 10
  • DTR-dialling
  • DTR-SMS
  • TCP/IP Stack
  • SMS-message up to 160 characters
  • Up to 11 data bits
  • Speed CSD up to 14.4 kbit/s, GPRS up to 85.6 kbit/s
  • Galvanic isolation on power supply
  • Speed serial: 300 to 115.2 kbit/s
  • RS232 port (GDW11)
  • RS232 / 422 / 485 port (GDW11-485)
The GDW-11 is a GSM/GPRS modem designed for industrial applications that can be used on 900 and 1800 MHz GSM networks. The modem requires a SIM card to provide connection to a network service provider. The modem contains an enhanced TCP/IP stack to allow GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) connections to be made seamlessly and reliably ensuring maximum availability of the GPRS connection. If the GPRS connection is broken the modem can automatically re-establish the link. Another enhanced feature in the modem includes the ability to make a CSD connection or send an SMS message when the DTR signal is activated, allowing the modem to be used in applications where the connected device has no intelligence to initiate a call using AT commands. If a PIN number is used by the network, this can be stored in the modem to ensure the availability of the modem after a power failure. The modem can also periodically re-register with the network, this is required as some networks will deregister a SIM that has not moved or been active for a period of time. The GDW-11 is configured with an RS232 /422 / 485 port
